Important Definitions 

Ministry Camp

A ministry camp is a camp organised and run by CYC Waihola. These include our junior camps for boys and girls, our teenage camps (such as Horse Trek, Tramping Camp, etc.) and any training camps we run.

Ministry Staff

Ministry staff refers to all persons involved in the running of a particular ministry camp – whether it be a cabin leader, leader-in-training, cook, speaker, camp parent, camp director or even a day helper that only comes in during the daytime. If you are doing this training so you can get involved in our Ministry Camps then you are a potential Ministry Staff member. Unfortunately being a Ministry Staff member does not mean that we will pay you a salary ….. you will remain a volunteer!

Paid Staff

CYC Waihola employs and pays 4 staff that are referred to as “paid staff”.

CYC Waihola is a provider of multiple types of external services to the public through our ministry camps.

God might be the reason we run our camps here at CYC Waihola….

But when people talk about God questions always come up such as who exactly is “God”, OR who was Jesus, OR how do we interpret certain passages.

Leading a Camper to Christ

If this opportunity presents itself at camp then it is a very special privilege to be part of. A camper that is asking to become a Christian is something we should all be praying about before camp, during camp and after camp.

The most imporatnt part of leadship at camp is being a Christian role model to the campers.

Behaviour expectations of CYC Waihola Ministry Staff/Leaders

After being invited to lead and the information and details before camp starts.

Camp duties form an essential part of the camp.

Camp discipline is one of the harder topics to train in – d iscipline at camp can be difficult but needs to be done well to maintain order at camp. Sometimes it seems that your entire cabin are striving ensure that Romans 3:23 is actually correct every minute of camp!

The Age of Compliance. 

What are these rules, policies and procedures?

Camp activities are the heart of coming to camp. For many kids it is the challenge of extending themselves, having fun and the myriad of imaginative activities that brings many kids to our camps. Themed activities add even more excitement to camps.

However many camp activities can be dangerous if not run and managed correctly.

It is no secret that we live in a fallen world. Unfortunately this means that sometimes the children in our care at camps may have been victims of abuse and other terrible acts.

As leaders we also need to know what is acceptable and unacceptable at camps when children are involved. We should also know what what to do when we suspect child abuse.

It is very important to follow up with the kids that were at camp with you in your cabin group.
